The Frome neighbourhood police service has issued a statement saying that they believe the camper van fire on Selwood Road earlier this week is NOT related to the other fires in the area.

The van was burnt out in the attack late at night on August 23, leaving the owners unable to go on holiday the following day.

Now the police have put out a statement defending the fact they did not attend at the time of the fire AND saying it is not tied to other fires in Selwood Road.

In the post officers reason why they did not go to Selwood Road that night saying: " The fire service explained the vehicle, a white Renault campervan, sustained extensive damage during the fire. Given the late hour and other demand at the time, it was felt best that officers make contact with the victim in the morning (Tuesday 24 August) after being informed the offender(s) had fled the scene and there was perceived low ongoing risk to the public.

"Although our enquiries are at an early stage, we would like to reassure people that at this time we believe this to be an isolated incident and not related to any other similar previous incidents that remain under investigation. Our regular high-visibility patrols around Frome will continue as a precaution. "

Officers added that anyone who sees anything suspicious or knows anything about the fire should contact them online or call 101 and give reference number 5221194946.
