It has been 50 years since Avon Valley Railway opened, and regional Mayor Dan Norris unveiled a plaque to mark the milestone.

It was installed at 6.30pm on Thursday 4 April - exactly 50 years since Avon Valley Railway's first public open day on the same date in 1974 - ahead of Mr Norris jumping on board a special anniversary dining training (with a 1970s inspired menu).

Other anniversary highlights included behind the scenes tours, and more.

The plaque was attended by dozens of locals including celebrity rail enthusiast and social media star Francis Bourgeois who is connected to Frome.
