Frome's recycling site opened today (May 11) - with the first car waiting in the queue to get in at 7.30 am, although it did not open until 9am.

The first person to use the newly re-opened service, who did not want to be named, was thrilled to be getting rid of garden waste.

He told Nub News: " Since lock down all I have been doing is gardening, so it was getting desperate, I am so pleased to be getting rid of my green stuff, it was worth the wait."

Staff at the site, who had been told not to make any comments to the media, were at the gates getting ready for what they expected to be a busy first day, from 8am.

There are signs from the Sainsbury's roundabout warning of long delays and reminding residents that the site will be operating an alternate number plate system ; with the first day just accepting cars with odd numbered plates.

Recycling crews let three cars in at a time, with more staff available to ensure safe distancing.

Nub News saw that as well as the Somerset Waste Partnership staff, the two local traffic wardens had been co-opted to work on site.

Somerset Waste Partnership has warned people in Frome to expect long delays as they operate within safe social distancing protocols, and to only use the site for essential waste recycling.

At other recycling sites in Somerset you can check out live queue cameras with live cameras of the queues at Bridgwater (Saltlands),
