The annual Remembrances service in Frome, virtual last year due to coronavirus lockdowns, was a well-attended event this year, with hundreds in the street around the Memorial Theatre.

It was an especially poignant event too, because many notable Frome families were mourning the passing of beloved members, among them Frome's Royal Naval Association President, Alan Sandall who died in the past year.

The service at the theatre began at 10.55 with the traditional arrival of standard bearers following an address to the crowd honouring all those, from Frome and further afield, who have served, died been wounded or suffered in war and conflict.

The priest added: " We are conscious of the loss during the past year of World War II veterans including those whose contributions to last year's virtual Remembrance gave it such significance and meaning."

He named Ron Stone, and Ivor Pickford, Alan Sandall, Ken Miller and John Fuller... " and those known to us but not named, a generation the like of which we will not see again."

The two minute silence following the sounding of the Last Post was only marred by the whirring of a drone flying overhead, much to the irritation of some people on the edge of the large Frome crowd.

Wreaths laid included those from the local fire and rescue service, the councils, the Lions and Rotary clubs of Frome and, from Animals Remembered who placed a wreath of blue poppies.
