Melksham RFC Colts 10 - 41 Frome RFC Academy

Report by Andy Vince

The Frome RFC Academy XV  travelled to Melksham RFC for a Dorset and Wilts league game on Sunday.

Frome started very well and attacked with purpose, with strong running by the pack and direct running from the backline.

Fly Half Bryn Lewis was orchestrating things well, and the first try came after some good phase building and a good break by centre Archie Coleman who crossed the line for the try. The kick was missed.

Some more good phase play from Frome followed, with the ball being moved across the pitch, with the forwards and backs working well together, some strong running from the forwards took them into the Melksham Twenty two. After two phases from the forwards the ball crossed the line, with prop forward Ollie Andrews emerging from the bottom of the ruck with the ball. The kick was missed.

Straight from the kick off Frome took the attack to Melksham spreading the ball wide and then bringing the ball back to the other side, two big passes from Bryn Lewis and Archie Coleman put winger Brennan Doyle into space who made the most of the space to go round his defender and score in the corner. The kick was missed.

Frome again took control of the game and were going through their patterns of play well, whilst defending well when called upon, with Will Ibbitson making some great tackles in midfield and Flankers Callum Burgess and James Masters making a nuisance of themselves breaking up attacks well.

Frome managed to get into the Melksham twenty two again and were awarded a penalty five metres out, with some quick thinking from Scrum half Cameron Vince who took a quick tap catching the defence asleep and diving over the line under the posts. The extra points were added by Henry Williams.

With the half at almost over Frome were making the most of their dominance and made their way into the Melksham half again and again went wide with Full back Henry Williams getting on the end of a sweeping move to score. He then added the extras.

HT: Melksham RFC 0-29 Frome RFC

The Second half started well with a move straight from the training ground, ball came out to Bryn Lewis who did a nicely weighted kick through to the try line with centre Archie Coleman diving onto the ball to claim the try. Extra points added by Henry Williams.

Frome were dealt a blow midway through the half when flanker Callum Burgess was awarded a yellow card for an off the ball incident.

Despite this Frome continued to attack and defended well, with prop Neo Davies finishing off another good move and crossing the line. The kick was missed.

Melksham started getting back into the game, as Frome went back to full strength, only to loose Prop Ollie Andrews to a yellow card for a high tackle. Melksham finished strong and managed to score twice before the end of the game.

FT: Melksham RFC  10 - 41 Frome RFC

Player of the Match went to fly half Bryn Lewis for his control in attack and his game management through out the game.
