Following last week's win over Chippenham RFC II, Frome arrived at Trowbridge to take on the their 2nd XV. With heavy showers during the morning and predicted for the remainder of the day, the conditions would certainly play a part in how the game played out.

It certainly wasn't the start Frome had hoped for when Trowbridge kicked off pinning the visitors deep into their 22, and as they tried to settle into phases a miss pass landed at the feet of the Trowbridge Centre who fly hacked it over the line and touched down with less than a minute on the clock.

Frome bounced back however and started to build phases together as the rain started to get heavier. Gaining some hard earned territory, Frome managed to apply pressure close to the Trowbridge line, and were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Full Back Ben Eley duly converted.

With 15 mins on the clock Trowbridge began to build pressure of their own, forcing Frome back into their 22, with the conditions starting to have an effect and the ball coming out of the breakdown, the home side were quickest to react to get the ball out to their Winger to who walked over in the corner from close range.

Trowbridge and Frome then played out the next part of the half fighting for position only to lose momentum with a knock on or a penalty in the ruck.

Frome would lose Full Back Eley to a blood injury seeing replacement Jack Stickley coming off the bench.

Then on 37 minutes Trowbridge managed to get in behind the Frome defence which a touch of class from the Full Back, managing to scramble their defence Frome held out only for a short period before the pressure Trowbridge got a score just before half time.

The second half didn't start well for the away side, with Second Row Connor McPherson being given a yellow card for an infringement at the breakdown. This was quickly followed by fellow Second Rower Alex Twigger coming off with an injury. Ed Darwent coming on as his replacement.

Frome rallied together despite the changes and the fact they were a man down, and managed to create a few chances of their own, that on another day would have lead to points.

The Frome defence held strong whenever it was tested with some big hits made by Centre Matt Warnock, Flanker Garrie Webster and notably Winger Cory Plumridge.

With McPherson back on Frome started to gain some field position and started to look like they were getting on top, when a head collision to McPherson put him out of the game, and saw Eley return to the field.

On 73 mins some quick thinking by Captain David Abrahams, following an infringement by Trowbridge, saw him move the ball quickly to Winger John Spencer, who managed to reach out and touch down under the posts, with Eley adding the extra points.

Frome pushed hard to the end but couldn't quite find away through the stern Trowbridge defence, a losing point meant Frome dropped from 1st place to 4th in Dorset & Wilts 1 North.

This week the side will face another tough encounter when they welcome Warminster RFC 1st XV to The Lane.
