Frome RFC IIs and a bounce back ready for the match ahead

The Frome RFC 2nd XV hoped to bounce back from their defeat to Royal Wootton Bassett RFC II last week when they welcomed Sutton Benger to The Lane on Saturday.

A special mention must go out as Frome were lead out onto the pitch by Frome's U10s who cheered on the team from start to finish.

Frome started well and put some good phases together and showed great intent, with some strong carries from Flanker Will button and Hooker Matt King. Frome then went wide and a good break from Winger Izaak Salmon-Brown who managed to pop the ball up to King, who set up a ruck from which Frome were awarded a penalty. A quick tap by Centre Ethan White who ran into the heart of the defence, breaking through untouched to score the first points of the game. The conversion was missed. (5-0)

On 15 mins Scrum Half Garrie Webster made a great break on the half way line and managed to keep going into the Sutton Benger 22 before being brought down. The following phas saw Second Row Mark Regler crash over the line to score, the extras being added by Fly Half Dave Abrahams. (12-0)

On 25 mins Hooker King broke through the line setting up a good platform for the Backline to go wide, with some great handling in midfield from Centres Cagilaba and White and Full Back John Spencer, Winger Salmon-Brown finished off this sweeping move well out pacing his opposite number to touch down in the corner. The kick was missed. (17-0)

On 30mins No.8 Rob James stole the ball from Sutton Benger and showed some quick hands to feed Cagilaba, who went though the gap and fed Winger Harry Burge, who out paced the defence from half way to touch down. The extras were missed (22-0)

A change on 37 mins saw Prop Jason Baraclough make way for Phil Clarke.

Then just before half time Frome lost centre Cagilaba to injury, whilst this was being looked out Frome kicked for the corner and from the line out were awarded a penalty which Flanker Will Button took quickly and managed beat the first would be tackle and crash over the line to score. The conversion going wide. (27-0)

The second half started a little slower, with Sutton Benger getting phases together and putting Frome's defence to the test.

Then on 48 mins Sutton Benger attacked wide and managed to break a tackle and showed good composure to cross the line in the corner. The kick was missed. (27-5)

This seemed to wake up Frome and they came back firing and put some great phases together, with strong carries again by Button and Stevan Randall. With great back up from Flanker James Milton who seemed to be every where in attack and defence.

On 55 mins Frome were awarded a scrum inside the Sutton Benger 22, and No.8 Randall picked up and crashed over the line. Abrahams adding the extras. (34-5)

On 61 mins Frome won a scrum against the head and went wide with some good hands, which saw Full Back Spencer getting the last pass off Winger Burge to touch down in the corner. Abrahams made the kick from out on the touch line. (41 -5)

Frome then showed why they are top of the league by showing great resolve to hold out under some good pressure from the visitors.

Player of The Match went was awarded to Winger Harry Burge and Flanker James Milton.

Frome RFC 2nd XV Team Manager, Andy Vince commented "I'm very proud of the way the team bounced back from last week, every player today did a great job and stepped up. I asked for a response and I got it. Very good result and a performance to match."

On Saturday, the 2nd XV travel to Chippenham RFC for the final fixture of the season. Another tough challenge in store for Abrahams men, but a win could see the secure the league title.
