On Saturday the Frome RFC 2nd XV travelled to Sutton Benger RFC 1st XV in Dorset & Wilts 1 North, and with the home-side boasting the best home defence in the league, Frome knew they'd have to work hard to break the side down.

The visitors started off brightly with a good opening exchange and straight away you could see that Sutton Benger were up for a battle.

Frome managed to build some phases together with some lovely support play in the Forwards, and the ball coming out to the Backline, and with the Sutton Benger defence racing up, it allowed Fly Half Dom Jones to make a break and feed Full Back Leone Naucukidi who scored in the corner. The conversion being missed.

Sutton Benger tried to apply pressure but Frome's set piece was working well, especially in the scrums where Frome were beginning to get the upper hand.

But the home side kept pushing and Frome were giving away too many penalties which allowed them to make ground. Then on 25mins Frome gave away another penalty which the Fly Half put into the corner, and from the line out got a solid catch and drive, pushing Frome back over their own line with the their No. 8 touching down. The conversion was missed, just hitting the post.

On 34mins Frome managed to get their game on song, and started to put phases together, and move the ball out of contact. Great support play moved them up the field, resulting in Frome entering the Sutton Benger 22, from there the forwards pushed hard to get across the line, with Second Row Connor McPherson crashing over the line. The extra's added by Jones.

The restart fell straight to McPherson who went on a run, linking up with the backline and his forwards with some superb offloading, finally landing to Flanker Matt Smith, who side stepped the last defender to touch down under the posts. Jones added the extras to see out the whistle for the 1st half.

At the start of the 2nd half Flanker Matt Smith made way for Miles Davies.

Frome started off the second half well and put a move together through the backs and winger Cory Plumridge was unlucky not to make it to the try line, only to be tackled into touch just short.

On 46 mins Clarke came on for Ashmore.

On 53 mins Sutton Benger were looking to attack and score again when Full Back, Naucukidi read the pass perfectly to intercept and run the length to score. Jones added the extras.

From the resulting kick off Frome seemed very unlucky as Centre Ali Frost knocked on and then was deemed to be offside as he fell on the ball, and was awarded a yellow card.

Sutton Benger seem buoyed by this and applied pressure from a set piece which resulted in an error in the Frome back line and the homeside were quickest to react and touch down to score.

On 61 mins Henry Bull made way for Ed Derwent.

On 65 mins Full back Naucuikidi made a break and manage to get in an off load despite the defences best effort which went to wing Ed Derwent who did the rest and touched down for his first try of the season. The conversion being missed as Jones hit the post for the tight angle.

Things started to open up now and Frome seized on the openings with Naucukidi making the most of the space and showed some real class to break through some tackles to touch down for his hat trick try.

Frome attacked well from the restart and following a lineout were awarded a penalty, which Captain Matt King took advantage of and with a quick tap crashed over to score. Jones added the extras.

FT: Sutton Benger RFC 10 - 43 Frome RFC II

Player of the Match went to Full Back Leone Naucuikidi for his superb game and a hat trick of tries.

  • The Frome RFC 1st XV home match against Oxford Harlequins was postponed to next year.
