On Saturday the Frome RFC 3rd XV we're finally back in league action when they played host to local rivals Midsomer Norton RFC 3rd XV.
It was set to be a tough fixture for the home side as the visitors had previously put up a big score on Frome earlier in the season.Frome kicked off to start the game, and with the wind behind them, looked to utilise good field position, but Midsomer Norton looked to threaten early and returned the ball with some strong attacking play.
A turnover in the breakdown however saw Frome use the wind to their advantage and set up for a lineout in the opposition 22.With Ben Eley controlling the backline, and Scrum Half Andrew Greenwood taking care of the Forward Pack it wasn't long until the phases got the better of the Visitors and Frome RFC Prop Will Witt, spotted the gap to crash over for the try.
Again Norton attacked Frome defence but with penalties at the break down Frome saw a quick pop ball of the floor to Flanker Jack Carter to score his first try in a debut game.HT: Frome RFC III 12 - 0 Midsomer Norton RFC III
The game restarted with the visitors yet again making some positive carries, and with some quick hands they found space out wide and crossed over for a converted try.Frome were quick to respond and came back with Second Row Dan Castle, who carried well through the game, followed a similar pattern to the first two trys and found a gap to dart over the line to score.
Midsomer Norton always looked dangerous through their Centres and again found space on the edges and soon added to their score with an unconverted try. This wasn't to be the final points of the day, that came from a 10 meter charge from Prop Witt to finish the scoring and seeing the home side record the win.
FT: Frome RFC 22 - 12 Midsomer Norton RFC IIIWe caught up with Frome RFC 3rd XV Captain, Ali Fisher after the game who said: "Its been a tough season, but the lads have showed true grit and determination. An absolutely smashing result and a well deserved bonus point win"
The Frome RFC 3rd XV are back in league action on March 19th, in the rearranged fixture, when they face league leaders Huish Tigers RFC.
