The force was out in force, literally, with police horses, drones and several offices on bikes and in cars in and around Frome as they took part in a special targeted operation focusing on road risk.

It was meant to be visible and was, linking up Mendip officers, police horses and the drone operation.

That drone in action can be seen here on the force's Twitter feed.

They say they have been working as a combined force to target road risk and the #FATAL5 in and around the Frome area, promising more deployments to follow.

Frome Nub News understands that in addition to booking cars without tax and or without insurance they were also looking at heavy goods vehicles who have not put their loads up properly. At least one driver was stopped and charged with not securing their load properly.

Police called it a day of 'action & reassurance' coming as it did following some tragic car fatalities including the killing of two Frome sisters on the Frome by-pass by the summer.

Thomas Lenthall, who has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, is due to be sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on December 14. Two counts of driving without insurance have been dropped.
