Frome Rotary is appealing for gardeners, big and small, to take part in their competition for the best plots in the town.

The competition is open to all - and will go on to support local charities.

But for the smaller Monty Dons and miniature Alan Titchmarshes there is an extra incentive with children under 16 able to win a £50 garden voucher.

Three of the judges are some of the biggest green names in the town, Ray Carver, Chair of Frome in Bloom, Pat Doel who is also with Frome in Bloom, and Maureen Hinton, Chair of the Horticultural Section of Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show.

Frome Selwood Rotary President Ian Buick said: " Gardens in Frome have never looked better. The three Rotary clubs in Frome who have been co-operating closely and working tirelessly during the pandemic to support local charities and anyone needing help, looked for a way to bring some joy and excitement to the community. One of the unexpected bonuses has been the increased time gardeners have had to make the best of their gardens. What could be better than to celebrate their achievements at the same time as supporting cash starved charities who have been doing so much for us during this difficult time."

One person who has already entered told Frome Rotary: " What a lovely idea this is. It's lovely to record my lockdown garden, I'm a complete novice and my garden is more luck than judgement and it was a complete joy to me during lockdown. A ray of sunshine!"

Entries close 14 September.
