Carol services are the latest cancellations, as Frome events are being shelved due to the rising number of coronavirus cases.

The outdoor Victorian Fayre event on Saturday in Shepton Mallet has been cancelled.

Organisers of that said: " We are really sorry, this was the last thing we wanted to do....We appreciate some may not understand our decision since we are an outdoor event, but it appears we have returned to uncertain times with this new variant and as an organisation we cannot put the lives of our community at risk."

Also the carol services in the outlying villages to Frome have been cancelled.

Organisers posted: "It is with great sadness that , due to the situation with the Coronavirus, our carol services in Mells , Buckland Dinham and Great Elm have been cancelled."

Yesterday (December 16) it was revealed that the R rate of transmission of the new Omicron variant has been estimated as between 3 and 5, Susan Hopkins, the chief medical adviser at the UK Health Security Agency, told MPs.

Also cancelled this Saturday's South West 1 East fixture at home between Frome & Oxford Quins has been postponed due to a number of the Quins playing squad testing positive for COVID-19.

The fixture will be rearranged for the New Year.
