A famed Frome run due the middle of July has been cancelled.

The half marathon and two fun runs were due on July 17.

Voted one of the best events in the UK by runners in the independent Racecheck Awards in 2019 the move has disappointed hundreds of would be racers.

Frome Town Council announced the news on June 28.

Today they added: "We've been informed this year's race is no longer able to go ahead. It appears that the company who organises the race may have gone into administration. All affected runners are being offered free entry into various races so please check your emails including junk for more information."

The run was sold on the basis of being unforgettable.

"All courses are scenic single loops (no laps!) offering a big city race experience in this beautiful town and the surrounding villages. You'll experience the famous local support with hosepipe-wielding, jelly baby-serving residents and storm on feeling like a local warrior as you conquer some challenging climbs that make the run even more rewarding.

The final glorious mile sweeps through the town centre heart of Frome with a huge downhill curve that will set your hairs on end, with goose bumps carrying you through to the finish line. "
