Really welcome news arriving at Frome Station

Following a campaign by community group 'Frome Station Friends', members are delighted to announce that they have secured a licence from Network Rail to have access to the disused platform at Frome Station.

Cllr Steve Tanner said: "As part of the agreement we can now embark on a programme to clean, tidy and install planters on this side of the station with a view to enhancing its appearance for visitors and travellers alike."

Steve continued: "The building itself is a listed structure due to its historical importance to Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway which limits what we can do, but the aim is to turn the station into a place which befits this history and is also a credit to the town."

"It has taken over a year to get to this stage and we are grateful to Network Rail for giving us the chance to take over this space."

Vicky Clift, Customer Support Manager, from Network Rail said: "I am very relieved that the community licence is now issued for Frome, and I look forward to hearing about the group's activities in the next few months."

Some members of the community group have been trained by Great Western Railway who manage the 'live' platform so hopefully the group's presence and work will be visible and enjoyed by all before too long.

The Frome Station Friends group was formed last year but Covid restricted progress a little but the group are now raring to go. The organisers are getting in touch with the volunteers to move the project forward, if you'd like to join the group, get in touch by emailing [email protected].
