Children's rock band, Rocktopus finish the year celebrating their 200th school workshop in a bid to bring back fun and creativity to learning.

Frome based children's rock band, Rocktopus have spent the past 20 months touring Primary Schools up and down the country with their award-winning workshops.

Band members, Tom Veck and Andy Hawkings, both qualified and experienced teachers run cross curricular learning workshops in a bid to educate and engage pupils in an entirely new way.

"We provide an educational experience like no other. Music making strengthens cognitive function and builds strong foundations for literacy and maths, so we've combined music with PE, maths and literacy to help make learning fun and memorable."  Andy comments.

Inspired by their love of music, Tom and Andy have seen first-hand the diminishing focus schools place on the Arts.

"Music should never be discounted. It's been proven to have positive benefits on a child's learning and development which is why we're touring with our music-led school workshops." Tom explains.

The band's workshops also focus on teamwork, bonding and exercise which in turn helps boosts children's mental and physical wellbeing.

"We feel it's our duty as teachers and parents to help build a child's confidence and self-esteem, and remind them that learning comes in many forms, even rocking out with a real life rock band!" Tom continues.

Rocktopus have toured as far as Debry, Kent and Shropshire and visited more than 45,000 school children since March 2021. They offer three unique school workshop experiences for Primary Schools - Rock The SportSchool Values Rock and their latest workshop which launched last month, Maths Rocks. Each workshop provides a slightly different focus – sport, school values or maths, whilst incorporating fundamental elements across all three – music, PE and literacy.

The band continue to tour the country working with schools in a bid to help make learning fun.
