The centre of Frome is just full of weeds - and rubbish - the council meeting on October 4 heard.

Frome Town Council banned the weed killer glyphosate in 2016, which has led to complaints in the national media about the state of the town pavements.

Now a resident has told councillors that Bath Street in particular nothing short of a mess, and the weeds also then trap rubbish.

Cllr Nick Dove, who represents the area in the centre, conceded that the streets were looking less than ideal but told the meeting on October 4 that they should improve with the arrival of a new town ranger on October 16.

However he also admitted that right now they do not have any equipment to tackle the weeding, but it remained a priority.

Later in the meeting he added that the council also needed to look at how rubbish was collected from businesses in the centre of Frome. Cllr Dove said: " I believe there are 11 different private contractors collecting rubbish - why can' there be just one?"

Cllr Fiona Barrows added that there was a town-wide hoedown to help clear the streets and pavements.
