Councillors tonight (January 31) will be discussing the Town Hall, and specifically how it might be made more budget friendly and make more money.

The Hall is estimated to be running a projected deficit this year of £6,000.

The building has several sitting community tenants using the space, but with an increased number of people working for Frome Town Council, they warn, " During the week this has the effect of making our meeting rooms extremely busy – it is now increasingly difficult to find a casual meeting room during the week and the Town Clerk's office is frequently used as an overflow meeting space."

But the team in Frome is keen to look at ways of generating more income from the building, but not if they compete with other event venues such as Rook Lane, saying that the hire price is roughly in line with them.

In the review councillors are asked if : " Do we want to make our offer more competitive and risk undercutting other venues in the town? The same goes for our meeting rooms. This doesn't make the Town Hall a cheap option, particularly at the weekends when we must charge an additional £15 per hour for stewards when no other staff are in the building."

Frome Town Hall offers a discount of one third to local community groups.
