Frome Town Councillors have heard an update on the management of green spaces in the town, including possible plans for a town pond.

The Environment Manager Chris Stringer gave an update at the latest Town Matters meeting, telling them there is a possibility of a pond in Rodden Meadow.

" Both Rodden Meadow and Millenium Green are now fairly settled spaces, " he told the on line meeting. " One thing to mention, we have been in contact with Froglife with a view to possibly starting a wildlife pond. These are just ambitions at the moment and would involve the top meadow."

Chris later told councillors (July 15) that if it were to become a reality they would need " Lots and lots of volunteers in making it."

Councillors agreed it sounded an exciting idea and looked forward to hearing more.

In addition to his general report on the green areas around Frome, and very positive remarks made about leaving certain areas to a more natural state, he gave details on the work happening in Rodden Meadow.

The photo shows a working area being used by Wessex Water. He told councillors on Zoom: " They are putting in a tidal flap in the river. It is an inlet which will stop prevent flooding - the word tidal throws people off but it is just the river that has the work in it. Work there should be completed by the end of the week."
