Devizes RFC Boys U16's 27 - 32 Frome RFC Boys U16's

Match report by Andy Vince

The Frome RFC U16s travelled away to Devizes this weekend full of confidence after their win in round one of the Premiership North.

The first half started with the home team applying pressure and camped out in Frome's 22, but some big tackles coming in from No.8 Jake Stickley and Second Row Stevie Clacee slowed the attacks down. Frome's backs lead by Captain Bryn Lewis were up quick and Centres Will Sharp and Henry Williams kept their tackle count high.

The home side managed to eventually get through scoring the first try of the match. But Frome's heads didn't go down and they started getting some phases together with some strong running by the Front Row of Isaac Cornish, Dom Evans and Ollie Andrews.

Frome would lose Evans shortly after to the bin following a tip tackle.

Frome took the attack into the homes sides half, Fly Half Lewis spotted a gap in the defence and cut through to the line scoring a well deserved try. The kick was made by Williams.

Frome returned to the Devizes half again and edged closer to the line only to be awarded a penalty within kicking distance. Williams stepped up and took the three points.

Second half saw Frome attack well, again the Frome forwards took the game to Devizes, and Ollie Andrews opened the scoring with a great burst through the defence and scoring under the posts. The kick was made by Finn Van Groph.

Van Gorph added another penalty a few minutes later to stretch out the lead to 5 - 20.

Devizes weren't done however and started a comeback, with their backs starting to gain some territory, notably the left winger who managed to touch down and cause the Frome defence a lot of problems.

Devizes managed to get the score back to 17-20.

Frome showed a lot of courage and team work and were not going to lie down, and regained their composure and put some phases together getting the ball out wide with Full Back Bren Doyle coming into the line and showing good strength to get over in the corner.

Devizes managed to score again in what was now a battle of the attacks making the score 22- 25, this time Frome had their chance to attack, and with Scrum Half Cameron Vince ushering his forwards towards the line from a line out, Hooker Evans broke off the back of the maul down the blind side and dived over the line to score. Williams made the kick.

Devizes came back again scoring one more try with only three mins left on the clock. Frome controlled the last few minutes well, keeping Devizes in their half until the final whistle was blown.
