Frome weather update. Storm Eunice expected to peak at midday but Amber warning remains

Update : If you are travelling or planning on travel BOTH M4 bridges have been closed for what is believed to be the first time ever, due to high winds.
This is obviously causing traffic problems back along the M4 and into the M5.
Two roads across the Mendips that we are aware have been closed (at 11:00 am) due to fallen trees. ï¸B3134 Burrington Combe

Frome's exposure to the worst of Storm Eunice is expected to hit the town at midday, although wind speeds are not forecast to be as high as feared.
The town was much quieter than usual today (February 18) with roads virtually empty.
However people were still around and the cafes and shops were open and surprisingly, at least one of the local parks did have visitors.
The weather was blustery all morning, but according to one set of data provided by Somerset Highways the winds did not hit the feared 70 or 80 miles per hour.
An Amber warning remains for the Frome area.
What Amber means: Likely travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and risk of falling branches. Think about changing your plans.
Travel and travel issues have now moved to the South East with the operator of the trains in the region "strongly advising" people not to travel due to Storm Eunice.
Great Western trains - one of the companies which serves Frome but also has a lot of services into Wales - is advising passengers to check on their on line service site.

In terms of buses the D2 - which is the main service from Frome into Bath has been cancelled until at least 4pm.
And in case you missed it Longleat is closed today (February 18) but your tickets, if you had them, will be valid for other days.
Meantime Somerset County Council has offered this advice for householders in case of a power cut
