Frome's super athlete Emily Diamond narrowly missed out on a medal as she competed in the 4x400 metres in Japan.

The team GM runners came in fifth place running in 3:22.59, with the Gold medal won by the Americans in 3:16.85, followed by Silver for Poland in 3:20.53, and the Jamaicans in Bronze position with a time of 3:21.24.

Meantime there were celebrations in Chapmanslade when Kate French won Olympic gold in the modern pentathlon. Kate, who lives in village with her husband, trains at Bath University.

The GB Olympic team have matched their medal total from London 2012 in the last full day of the games. They have won 65 medals across 23 events, 22 gold, 21 silvers and 22 bronzes, putting them fourth in the medal table.
