The auto repair company Sure Fit-It has re-opened - putting safety first - and with a raft of special offers to support the local community along with discounts for NHS and key workers.

The company has brought a skeleton staff back from furlough and are pretty much taking each day as it comes in terms of fitting tyres, brakes and batteries - seeing how much demand there is from local motorists.

It is a work in progress, running two garages - with some government help and a big thank you to B&NES financial help in Writhlington - but it is worrying time.

Owner Simon Wilkinson said: " We have now got all the cleaning equipment, the sprays and we disinfect all the cars as they come in, to protect the staff we now have in back from furlough. Then we spray it all again for our customers as they get back in the cars, all so that it can be done safely."

The company which has branches on Marshall Way in Frome and in Writhlington - and also runs JB Autos in Radstock .

At the Writhlington garage the boss has two staff off, two staff on and some days they are full booked, some days it looks less positive.

" It is going to be hard for a long time. We are really busy today (May 20), but yesterday we were finished by 12 o'clock, we only had three or four jobs in. It is working out all the time how we can serve customers with what they need."

Simon, who has been running the garage for nearly thirteen years is full of praise for the team at Bathinvest who were able to give the company financial help within seven days for their Writhlington and Radstock businesses. " They were absolutely fantastic, so efficient and so fast."

The company has a booking service on line for tyres and MoTs and they are offering discounts for healthcare workers and NHS staff - up to 20 per cent.

Sure Fit-It is also offering to any customers Just Eat vouchers: for all four tyres a £30 voucher.

" It is just something - if people need to get tyres, it is an incentive, we are doing what we can. It is just to try to win some service back in the area, we are putting it out there it is going to be hard for a long time.

"We have had some help from the government but when we are looking at the overheads I have here and the stock, that money doesn't last long."
