The smallest creatives in Frome were today (Monday February 17) putting their finishing touches to the art work they will be using for the highly successful Frome Window Wanderland, which is coming to the town for a third year at the end of the month.

The idea is simple: dress up your front window for everyone to enjoy and then wander the streets admiring the gallery.

Some of the designs are intricate and complex, but as organiser Lisa Glass explained it doesn't have to be.

Speaking at the family workshop at the Cheese & Grain Lisa told Nub News:

" To be honest when something is lit up and it's dark outside, and it has light behind it. EVERYTHING looks fabulous. It can be the most simple thing in the world and it looks great as a window design."

This morning's designs include a garden, some dinosaurs, an underwater scene from the gorgeous shark-proud brother and sister Bobby and Jenny, and some little hands inspired by Harry Potter.

The wanderland idea started in Bristol, but the idea has now spread worldwide, with events across the globe, including ones in Australia and New Zealand for the first time last year.

But it is not just about being creative; when the workshops are on there is lots of lovely chatter and exchanging of ideas, then there is the actual weekend event.

Lisa said: " It is about chatting to your neighbours hopefully getting them involved. It makes it so much more fun if there are several people down your road taking part, and then on the actual evenings, just wandering around. Talking to people about what a nice FREE event it is and it gets people out walking, so exercise too. In the winter time you do not want to go out in the evening, you want to sit on your sofa, but this is a lovely outdoor gallery that everybody creates themselves."

Over 250 windows have already signed up for the trail which is on from Friday 28 February but there is still time to make your window creative and get involved.

The next children's Window Wanderland Makers Session is on February 19 from 10:00 - 13:00 at Christchurch School, on Feltham Lane in Frome.

You can chat with other window-makers, get ideas and inspiration, and start creating your window display for this year's event. Don't forget to come with your window measurements if needed. Some materials will be available (donations for materials welcomed!) but please feel free to bring your own.

The Window Wanderland is an event in association with Frome Children's Festival
