Bank holidays began in the UK in 1871, and all those years ago people went for a walk to celebrate, often by the seaside. Perhaps some did go shopping, but walking was obviously the best choice!
This year Mendip Ramblers invite you to walk with them over the Bank Holiday weekend, 26th, 27th and 28th August 2023 at their 21st Walking Festival based in Wells. Sadly we won't be able to offer coastal walking but just as good is the beautiful and varied countryside surrounding Wells, the UKs smallest city ( if we forget the City of London).
There will be a good range of walks each day ranging from approximately 4 to 12 miles, starting at 10am. The 1.30pm Family walk is especially good for those who like to stroll. Dogs on leads and accompanied children are especially welcome.
Those with energy left can then explore the famous Cathedral and Bishop's Palace, and maybe the shops! All are invited. Hopefully the rain will have stopped and the sun will return.
There's no need to be a Rambler, it's free and no pre- booking is necessary. All walks have a break. Just wear suitable footwear, bring a drink and a snack ( or two!) and a hat. You'll receive a warm welcome and be rewarded with tea and cake at the end. What's not to like! Please look at our website - www.mendipramblers.co.uk - for more details.
