A new nature group in Frome is hoping to get together those stuck at home and living with dementia - in a colourful and lively way.

In addition to being able to offer up activities and audio files, which they can send or email out, the group is hoping to create a huge springtime quilt.

You can get involved by sewing a square inspired by a favourite plant or animal, or a favourite patch of nature.

This is what the project aims to do:

Wild Memories is a group for people interested in wildlife and nature, in Frome and the surrounding area. It is completely free to join and participate.

The group is open to anyone living with dementia or experiencing memory loss, along with their family, friends or loved ones. The idea is that we can all learn, get active, and share our skills and interests in nature together.

During the corona crisis, we are providing activities to participants each week, including arts and crafts projects, gardening for wildlife, and fun ways to learn about nature. The activities are balanced between indoors and garden, so there should be something for everyone.

One thing people can get involved with right now is our collaborative quilt. Participants have been making squares on the theme of Springtime. We invite anyone interested to get in touch with us so we can send the information about making their own squares!

These will be sewn together, and hopefully shown in the Frome Community Exhibition later this year, alongside all kinds of art made by local people during the lockdown.

When the situation allows we will move back to the original plan of delivering outdoor group sessions, including gardening, nature walks, and more – watch this space.
