They have a spooky name and a bit of a wild reputation for a genre of music Frome Nub News has never heard of - jangle punk . So we were very happy to have the opportunity to find about more about Apollo Ghosts a Canadian indie band playing the Tree House in Frome on Saturday.

The band of three are Adrian Teacher on guitar, Amanda P. on bass and Dustin B on drums and they hail from Vancouver.

So first of all for the uninitiated what is Jangle Punk?

"Music journalists sometimes use that term to describe our band's sound. I think it refers to the chiming guitars without distortion or effects but I could be wrong. Maybe bands like like early REM or The Byrds or Television Personalities have that vibe? Maybe punk minus the machismo and toxic masculinity ?"

After some early success and a first album in 2009, the band announced they would be splitting in 2013 but then six years later, with some changes, they got the band back together.

Adrian told us: " We've always worked and kept the band as a hobby. We thought it would be fun to revive the band because it's the name most people remembered. "

Live music venues in many places are closing down is that the case across the water?

"Definitely - this is happening all across Canada for sure. Although lately it seems promoters and venues are re-emerging in Vancouver. They're like mushroom spores. You can stop them. People need live music. "

Tell us about your name Apollo Ghosts - the space mission or something else?

"It's a reference to an old venue in Thunderbay Ontario. I saw a ghost once while staying there during a tour. The bar was called the Apollo. "

The band has has played a couple of gigs in the north and is heading on to Dorset for the End of the Road festival which is featuring Fleet Foxes and Ross from Friends. The festival is at Larmer Tree Gardens in Blandford Forum, from September 1, but tickets are all sold out, so if you want to catch some Canadian magic, this is your chance.

They told us: " We hear great things about the community. Seems like an artsy town! "
