Glastonbury glampers have been left furious — and thousands of pounds out of pocket — after a luxury yurt company collapsed just weeks before the festival.

Yurtel, based in Corsham, Wiltshire, charged up to £16,500 for high-end camping and hospitality packages at Glastonbury Festival. But the firm ceased trading on 8 May and is now heading into liquidation, leaving customers without tickets, without accommodation, and with no hope of a refund.

In a letter sent to customers this week, liquidators confirmed: "Tickets to enter the Festival have not been purchased on your behalf. Accommodation booked with Yurtel will not be available."

The company had offered everything from deluxe bell tents to so-called "presidential suites" complete with king-sized beds, private decks and plush furnishings – aimed at festivalgoers who preferred boutique glamping over soggy guy ropes and overflowing portaloos.

But now, those customers are being told their bookings are worthless – and worse still, there's no money coming back.

Yurtel didn't hold customer payments in a trust account. Instead, the funds were used as part of its general operating capital – and under UK insolvency law, that means there's no legal obligation to refund a penny.

"Due to Yurtel's insolvency and its imminent liquidation, under prevailing insolvency law these monies, such as they remain, cannot be refunded to customers," the letter stated.

Customers who paid by credit card are being urged to contact their provider under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Those who paid by bank transfer or debit card will need to join the queue as creditors once the liquidation process formally begins.

Glastonbury Festival organisers have moved quickly to distance themselves from the mess, confirming that Yurtel had no formal affiliation with the event and had not secured any tickets for 2025.

"We have no involvement in Yurtel's operations and no record of their bookings. We are not able to incur the cost or responsibility of their loss or replacement," a spokesperson said.

This year's Glastonbury Festival runs from 25 to 29 June, with headliners including Neil Young, Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975.
