Going green at Vallis First School in Frome - starting by switching off the lights

At Vallis First School the pupils and teachers are wholly committed to saving energy.

Earlier this term all the classes discussed how to make Vallis 'greener'. Children enthusiastically came up with ideas about how they can save energy around our school. Other ideas involved making sure that we always turn the taps off and always remember to recycle or reuse paper or cardboard. The younger children have recently made very good use of used packaging to design and make some amazing models.

The newly formed Eco Council has one representative from each class. Their focus this term is on saving energy and the Eco council have made signs to remind everyone to turn the lights off. These are great reminders around the school to remind the whole school community to turn off lights as we leave a room to save electricity. Next term the very enthusiastic Eco Council will embark on another activity to encourage Vallis First School to be 'greener.'
