Some good news in the midst of the sporting calendar suspension : and Frome Rugby Club could not be happier.

A spokesperson has just announced the news with the simple words: " 1st XV got promotion!!!"

Following yesterday's announcement by the RFU that the final league standings would be released today (Saturday April 4) the club received confirmation that the Frome RFC 1st XV, who finished 2nd in Wadworth 6X Southern Counties South have gained promotion along with league leaders Grove RFC. A huge congratulations on deservedly winning the league as champions.

The men in red, white and black will return to Level 6 and likely to move up to South West 1 East, joining familiar sides like Sherborne, Trowbridge, Marlborough and Chippenham.

We caught up with Director of Rugby Cameron Hastie who said:" I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the 1st team of Frome RFC on promotion, it's to the credit of Head Coach Toby Culff, Unit Coaches Elliott Bowler and Dom Jones, 1st XV Captain John Benstead, all backroom staff including Team Manager Trevor Osborne, and of course all of the players that made it possible.

"As a club we all pushed in the right direction, with a superb attitude, hard work and dedication, you should all be very proud of this achievement.

"Promotion to level 6 has only happened for the club twice before, we must all work hard to remain at this level, the level we all deserve to play at.

"I thank you all for you continued support at this difficult time and wish you and your family safe times. Let's use this time to prepare for next season, for all teams, there is much to look forward to and we as a club must continue to grow from strength to strength. Thank you all once again.

Thank you to all who have made this season's achievements possible with sterling work, both on and off the pitch."

The club also thanked the continued support from their key sponsors including Frome RFC Principal Sponsor, The Old Bath Arms, Frome.

The spokesperson added; " While it certainly wasn't the way the club envisaged ending the season, with potentially another home playoff at 'The Lane' against Reading RFC it was of course the right thing to do as a sport and globally."
