Parents and Carers are being encouraged to download an App, which can help them manage many common childhood illnesses at home.
Doctors at Frome Medical Practice are recommending use of the Handi Paediatric App, as they have recently seen an increase in calls from parents and carers concerned about illnesses such as coughs, colds and potential chest infections. The App has been developed by paediatricians and offers expert advice and support on the most common childhood illnesses, including diarrhoea (gastroenteritis), a chesty child (wheeziness and asthma), a chesty baby (bronchiolitis), high temperature, abdominal pain and common newborn problems.
Dr Rob Taylor, a GP at the practice and Clinical Director of the Primary Care Network, said, "We are encouraging parents and carers to download the Handi Paediatric App and use this to check signs, symptoms and advice on what to do if their child is unwell. The App is an excellent resource and give parents and carers more confidence in dealing with minor conditions and managing symptoms at home."
"The App asks a series of questions about the symptoms your child has and then offers advice on what to do. The App will indicate when it's important to contact us, or NHS 111, to discuss your child's symptoms and will also indicate when a condition is more serious and needs emergency attention. Downloading and using the App will really help us manage the high demand we are currently seeing."
The App is available for free in your usual App Store. Advice on common illnesses, and medicines, is also available online here.
