Visitors at a Frome favourite local could not believe it when Hollywood star - and now apparently resident - Keifer Sutherland joined them as they celebrated New Year.

The star, possibly best known to younger audiences as Jack Bauer in 24 TV , charmed the staff and drinkers at The Crown in Keyford.

He happily posed for selfies and was friendly to everyone, taking time to chat and say hello.

Keifer, who is 57 is the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, both successful Canadian actors and has homes in LA and now, it seems, Frome.

It is understood that the star, who is also a famed musician, is currently recording a new album, possibly also in Frome.

While some of the crowd in The Crown in Keyford recognised the star, others needed to be reminded that he was a huge star, appearing as Designated Survivor as Tom Kirkman. He was also once famously the fiance of Julia Roberts who met Sutherland in 1990, when they co-starred in Flatliners.

While everyone had a super New Year celebration at the Frome pub, it is not such a happy ever after for The Crown, which has now closed, and is looking for a new owner. The pub has had several new owners over the past few years.
