How to give real and direct help to Ukraine is the question many people have been asking locally.

One new donation point has been set up in Westbury, to get desperately needed warm clothes and help to those who have been forced to flee their homes in Ukraine and make the difficult move to Poland, often with only what they are able to carry.

The collection point will take warm items and in particular children's clothes and nappies, which will be delivered to a welcome centre on the border lines in Poland.

Donations are open Monday to Friday 8 am until 5 pm and Saturdays 9 am until 3pm at Daykin Estates, Unit 4 Rockhaven Business Park, Commerce Close, Westbury BA13 4FZ.

They have appealed for :

- Clothes

- Blankets

- Sleeping Bags

- Hygienic Products (Toothbrush, Handwash, Tampons etc)

- Medicine (Painkillers, Bandage, Plasters etc)

- Dog & Cat Food

- Pet Accessories (Bowls, Toys, Dog Beds)

- Food with long expiry dates (Rice, Pasta, Canned Food)

- Children's Toys, Teddies

- Children's and Baby Clothes

This will be sent straight to Ukrainian refugees that have arrived in Poland with nothing. The donation point posted: " We are in touch with a hostel in Zgierz and a volunteer centre in Lodz, every item donated will go directly into hands of the Ukrainian people in need."

All donations will be sent every Monday, starting from the 7th of March.

The British Red Cross has started an on-line appeal for funds too. Details HERE: the donation site

There is also a fund to keep a newly-opened independent news organisation, the Kyiv Independent, running. Over half a million pounds has already been donated. Read more HERE:
