In case you missed it : Frome skatepark is blocked for users but play park remains open

In case you missed it Frome's skatepark has now been fenced off and a security camera is now recording the area.

Frome Town Council made the announcement that they were closing off the park, along with the adjacent basketball court, on February 18.

They said that they took the decision to make the area out of bounds " Following discussions with the police."

The barriers have already caused a lot of comments on social media, since, under the current lockdown rules the children's play area in the same field next to Victoria Park, is allowed to remain open.

But opinions seem divided, and when Nub News visited the park itself the children's play area was packed, although the government's coronavirus guidance states that play areas of parks should only be used by people who do not have access to outdoor space at home.

One comment on social media supported the decision: "We need to be keeping our kids safe. There are on average ten new cases daily in the small part of Frome including Victoria Park area. "

Another: " All parks should be shut then. Loads of kids and parents touching everything."

Frome Town Council added : " This is to ensure compliance with the law that currently states all skate parks and sports courts should remain closed."
