It has doubtless helped that it has been wet over the past few days, but Frome film goers have been flocking to the Frome's independent cinema The Westway to see showing of the pink-tastic Barbie.

The film took £30 million on its opening weekend -which makes Greta Gerwig's film the most successful across the UK since 2019 ( According to the UK Cinema Association ) and puts it on track to be THE most successful film of 2023.

Worldwide the film has already made $337 million and has topped the screen leaderboard in Canada and the United States, in a strong film field, which also saw the opening weekend of the very dark Oppenheimer, which is also playing at The Westway.

There are odd seats left at Frome cinema for the Barbie movie, which fans have been wearing pink to watch, although it is by no means just a fluffy glitter fest. Yes it is funny, occasionally hilarious and the sparkle and costumes and the all-important Barbie world is a joy to step in, even with heels.

But beyond our Ken is a story of the patriarchy, power, love, of loss, and of cellulite. Oh and some cameos from unexpected quarters, along with a sad tale of single issue doll Allan, who at least gets to show some impressive fight moves.

If this doesn't tempt you to step into a Barbie world, then there is also a great sound track and even a car chase, although if you REALLY love an old fashioned metal to the floor kind of escapism, the Cork Street cinema is also still playing, again to near-full screens, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
