A total of five fire crews were called out to a property fire at Thatchet Hill in Babington near Frome late last night (February 6).

Both fire engines from Frome, one engine from Radstock, another from Paulton and one, along with a turntable ladder from Bath were sent to the fire.

Once crews got in attendance the officer in charge confirmed smoke issuing between the ground floor and the basement of the property. The crew got to work to investigate the cause of the smoke by removing parts of the flooring and ceiling to locate the fire. The crew used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, small tools, one main jet, one covering jet and one thermal imaging camera.

It took over an hour for the crews to expose a timber joist smouldering causing the smoke logging within the property. They then carried on work dampening down the joist to make it safe before only finally leaving the site, at 3 am.
