Frome College, on what is the last day of the summer term, has reported a positive case of Covid-19 .

The case is in Year 10 and the college has said that the NHS is now in charge of track and trace of close contacts.

That would potentially mean all the students - and their families - who have come into contact with the pupil, will need to self isolate for 10 days.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is today (July 21) to self-isolate after one of his children tested positive for Covid, a spokesman has said.

A statement from his office said one of his children tested positive at lunchtime today.

The so called pingdemic, with the number of contacts being asked to isolate, is reported to be disrupting food supply lines and has led some supermarkets to shorten hours.

Nationally the Iceland supermarket Iceland said that after keeping all of its stores open during lockdown, it has now had to shut some because 1,000 staff have been "pinged" by the app.

To date as far as Frome Nub News is aware, no major supermarkets in the town are having staff shortages.

But today Frome Medical Practice urged patients to keep wearing masks at doctor's appointments, reporting a rise in coronavirus cases in Mendip and, specifically, in Frome.

The CBI has called for an immediate end to the 10-day self-isolation period for people who have been fully vaccinated. It also said daily lateral flow tests could help people who have not received both jabs get back to work.

From 16 August, people who have been fully vaccinated will not have to self-isolate if they are "pinged" by the NHS app when they have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid. They will instead be advised to take PCR test as soon as possible.
