On the first anniversary of their historic by-election win in the South West, the Liberal Democrats have unveiled their new campaign office in Somerton and Frome.

Less than a week into the campaign, the party has set up their main shop in Frome, with satellite hubs across the constituency.

Activists from across the country gathered to hear a rallying speech from Sarah Dyke and Tiverton and Honiton by-election winner Richard Foord MP.

The Liberal Democrats overturned the Conservative's 24,239 majority with Richard Foord's win. His victory continued the party's winning streak in rural blue wall seats, adding to previous by-election success in Chesham & Amersham and North Shropshire.

In Somerset, Sarah Dyke has seen similar success. During last May's local elections, she beat the man in charge of the Conservative party's 'Lib Dem unit.' Overall, the party won 61 seats and took control of the council from the Conservatives.

Liberal Democrat candidate for the Somerton and Frome by-election, Sarah Dyke said: "The Liberal Democrats have a long and historic record of winning in the South West, so I'm delighted that we've opened a new campaign office here in Frome on the anniversary of Richard's win.

"I've been knocking on doors across the Somerton and Frome constituency for years, and people are sick of having an absent MP whose office is never open.

"People here don't want another Conservative MP who takes them for granted. They want a local champion who will ensure their voices are heard in parliament."

Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton and Honiton, Richard Foord said:  "It's been one year to the day since the Liberal Democrats' historic win in Tiverton and Honiton, and I'm so excited to celebrate that victory by knocking on doors with Sarah Dyke in rural Somerset.

"Yet another Conservative MP in the West Country had taken their constituents for granted, but now the people of Somerton and Frome finally have the opportunity to vote for change.

"Sarah Dyke will be a strong local voice for Somerset and I am confident that she is the best person to champion this area in parliament."
