The eagerly anticipated Wells Food Festival is back, providing another day of free foodie adventures for the whole family, on Sunday 8 October.

Set in the heart of Wells, the festival is set to be a jam-packed celebration of Somerset's artisan producers and rich food culture, and this includes several producers from Frome and the surrounding area.

Visitors will be able to find Hettie Hen, makers of award winning scotch eggs, using free range eggs from down the road and free range pork from local farms; Little Jack Horner are makers of award winning sausage rolls, using 100% outdoor-reared, free-range local pork and chicken; Hejgro creates foraged preserves made with local natural ingredients from Somerset woods and meadows, and Louise Bees, provides honey straight from the hive, unblended and unpasteurised.

Meanwhile, there is plenty more to explore at the festival. In a nod to how busy life can get, Charlie Bigham's is launching the world's first ever Plate Spinning Championship, with a range of prizes on the day including, a year's worth of Charlie Bigham's for two.

The championship is set to be quite the spectacle, with a series of demonstrations, workshops and competitions. All ages and abilities can join in, starting with sessions for young children and older kids, moving all the way up to adult novices and professionals. To give it a whirl, head down early to the Recreation Ground and check the schedule.

There is an area dedicated to highlight current, food related social issues. The Food for Thought marquee will demonstrate what communities can achieve when they come together to tackle some of the challenges that face us through food poverty, food waste, high energy bills and family issues. Find out more about growing produce yourself and maybe learn how to ferment vegetables. Investigate what a foodbank does, how to run a community fridge, who is feeding the homeless, and what you can do to help. Look out for the big orange food truck!

The Celebrating English Wine marquee makes a welcome return, this time situated on the Palace Green. For younger festival visitors, the Children's Zone in the Recreation Ground will feature innovative street food stalls for smaller appetites and provide a host of fun foodie activities, along with the popular interactive Children's Trail. Meanwhile, the Fun Kitchen pop-up school will hold four cookery sessions of 45 minutes for children to take part and create vegetable-packed 'Oodles of Noodles' to take home.

Sunday 8 October, 10.30am-4.30pm. Free Entry. For all the latest information, visit www.wellsfoodfestival.co.uk
