Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden today (April 2) announced details of the 2,700 organisations being offered nearly £400 million in grants and loans to help the culture and heritage sector reopen and recover.

They include Jackdaws Music Education Trust, based out of Great Elm near Frome, which is receiving £25,474.

Artistic Director - Saffron van Zwanenberg said: "This award will mean that we can begin to safely restart activity onsite for musicians of all abilities as soon as restrictions allow and continue with our programme of inclusive events for 1000's children and young people in the South West. All in line with our mission statement "Enabling Creative Expression to Bring Music to Life" delivered through our core values of inspiration- access - inclusion."

Meanwhile in Wells, five organisations share nearly £800,000 of funding between them.

The five Wells organisations receiving the money, and the amount they are getting are as follows:

  • Wells Cathedral - £519,300
  • The Palace Trust (Bishop's Palace) - £170,000
  • Wells Film Centre - £55,020
  • The Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Wells St Cuthbert (St Cuthbert's Church) - £30,200
  • International Music Exchange - £25,000

In total the Government's total investment across grants, capital and repayable finance from the Culture Recovery Fund is more than £1.2 billion across more than 5,000 individual cultural and heritage organisations and sites.

The Glastonbury Festival has been awarded £900,000 in the scheme, which it will use to stage two smaller events this year, and to help it build towards 2022.

Michael and Emily Eavis, organisers of the Glastonbury Festival, said: "We're extremely grateful to be offered a significant award from the Culture Recovery Fund.

"After losing millions from the cancellation of our last two festivals, this grant will make a huge difference in helping to secure our future."
