Thousands of households in the eastern parts of Somerset may have a one-off Saturday rubbish collection as schedules change.

Kerbside rubbish and recycling changes begin from Monday, 17 June for around 92,000 homes in the South Somerset and Mendip areas.

Of these, around 17,000 will have a one-off collection of rubbish – but not recycling - on either Saturday, 15 June or Saturday, 22 June.

The extra collections are planned so no-one goes too long between rubbish collections as days change.

Anyone having a one-off collection will have it clearly marked in their Service Guide collection day calendar which arrived recently in the post, setting out their collection days for the next twelve months.

Residents with a change of collection day will also have received a letter letting them know that things are changing.

Anyone unsure if they have an extra Saturday collection can use Somerset Council's online lookup feature to check. A PDF version of the updated service guide and collection calendar can also be downloaded.

Residents in the following towns and surrounding villages should check if they have an extra rubbish collection. Not every household in these locations will have an extra collection, but some will:

Bruton, Buckhorn Weston, Castle Cary, Chapmanslade, Cheddar, Corsley, Crewkerne, Dilton Marsh, Frome, Glastonbury, Ilminster, Martock, Langport, Radstock, Shepton Mallet, Southwick, Stoke-sub-Hamdon, Wells, Wincanton, Yeovil.

The changes will make rounds more efficient and manageable for crews, whilst reducing mileage and carbon emissions.
