A new way of working safely.

These Frome sweeps, who already had enhanced safety measures in place, have now increased protection to reassure customers.

Once again two of Frome's local and like-minded chimney sweeping companies have come together with bookings now being taken for this vital service.

G Lucas Chimney Sweep and The Sweeping company, who are both registered members of Sweep Safe and HETAS, wanted to take an opportunity to reassure customers that as they return to work, they have altered and updated their working practices to be able to offer an extremely safe service.

They have realised that to be able to return to work safely, they would have to change the way they worked. They have carried out risk assessments, received advice and have invested heavily in PPE to allow them to work during the pandemic.

Lee Waldron of the Sweeping Company and Guy Lucas of G Lucas Chimney sweep, have both said:" Unfortunately Covid 19 is likely to be here for some time, so it's important to be able to adapt our service.

"Chimneys will still need to be swept and our appliances serviced before the next winter to keep them in a safe, working condition. It would be unsafe to simply work as we were before, the nature of our job means we go from one house to the next and could potentially unknowingly carry the virus.

"Our new way of working should prevent any cross contamination. We will be wearing single use coveralls for each job, either disposable or washable depending on the task. we have transit shoes which will be cleaned and disinfected after each house. Disposable gloves that will be changed as and when appropriate. We will be using single use sheets and cleaning appropriately any door handles etc as we go.

"We will obviously be following strict hand washing procedures and using appropriate alcohol gels.

"We have excellent P3/N99 rated respirators, please don't be alarmed by this, this isn't because we will make a mess, they are primarily to protect us from the carcinogens of soot, but are also an advantage during the current guidance of face coverings.

"We also use separators and air scrubbers for those jobs that require these excellent pieces of kit. "

The duo, who both offer electronic certificates and electronic payments, are doing everything to reassure customers that they will be working at optimum safety.

Right now they are working on emergency jobs, but chimneys will need to be swept in the coming weeks to be safe for next winter.

They said: " No matter how often you use your fires, the next few months will be a great time to get them swept and serviced. It is also a great time to stock up on good quality dry fuel, as if we face another lock down in the winter. Having a safe working appliance and plenty of fuel is one less thing to worry about. "

For more information or to make a booking with either Guy or Lee, please contact them via the details below..

They are currently taking bookings right up to the end of the year, so give them a call to get booked in and secure your sweep before the usual autumn rush.
