Lovely Frome pub up for sale - but The Crown Inn is being marketed as an investment with pints still being pulled
The highly popular Crown pub on the edge of Keyford in Frome is up for sale.
The pub is being sold after being renovated in 2021, since when it has been run as a busy foodie place, firstly with a special Argentinian/Uruguayan menu but more recently offering slap up breakfasts. It was sold previous to the renovation for £275,00.
If you are a fan, do not fear, it is just the overall ownership of the pub, dating from the late 17th century that is being sold. The tenants will carry on and it is being marketed as an investment with rental coming up at £39,000 a year.
The business is unaffected by the sale details HERE with a guide price of £395,000 which includes three bedroomed accommodation.
Frome Nub News visited the then owner of The Crown in March 2022 when he was part of a zero carbon project with Mendip, you can read about that HERE
The pub is being marketed as " a stylish and sympathetically restored free house offering character premises in historic town."
The world of pubs in a town renowned for them
Pubs and Frome seem to go together, as you might expect from a market town with full pockets on the way home and plenty of drinking establishments to spend it in.
In 1774 there were 43 pubs in the town. On the 1774 map of Frome of those 43, 11 are still open and another ten clearly identifiable.
The inns still open are the Angel (on King Street), the Blue Boar and the George Hotel (both in the Market Place) and The Griffin (on Milk Street).
Also on the map, the Lamb and Fountain (on Castle Street ) and the Three Swans on King Street.
But no more the Pack Horse (Christchurch St West), the Ring of Bells on Broadway (although the Royal Oak IS still there) . One known as the Jolly Butcher, the Crown and Sceptre on Trinity Street closed in 2014. The Old Angel And Crown Inn, on Vallis Way is now a family home.
