There are up to 120 train movements per week from the Whatley Quarry to various locations running through the centre of Frome.
Increased freight traffic on the line has resulted in the need for more maintenance.
The huge compound for maintenance staff and equipment on Weylands has recently suffered from partial demolition because of the wind, partially blocking the footpath.
Unattended gates have been cut in the fence keeping trespasses off the line.
There are 700 households in Frome that are located within about 35/45 metres of the track.
Residents are affected by the train noise, dust, noise and disruption caused by track maintenance and construction work, some carried out at night and week-ends.
