Make:Shed Frome is inviting young adults to attend a free online spoken word workshop with the talented Liv Torc, next Thursday, April 1.
The fun, creative (and not at all scary) online Spoken Word and Poetry workshop is aimed at all abilities and experience levels. You just need to bring a pen and something to write on - along with a willingness to have a go.
The session will explore themes of wellbeing and coping with lockdown, offering tips on how to write and explore your own creativity, even when you can't go out.
Programme Lead for Make:Shed and Routes Cassie Morris, said: "We are so excited to be hosting this free workshop facilitated by local spoken word artist Liv Torc.
"This will (hopefully!) be our last online session for a while and we wanted to go out in style. We would love to see some new faces next week, so if there's any young people out there looking for something different to do on a Thursday evening, then sign up and we look forward to seeing you there."
Liv Torc is a spoken word artist and producer, who is a former Bard of Exeter and current co-host of The Hip Yak Poetry Shack. Liv runs the spoken word stage at WOMAD and the Hip Yak Poetry School.
In 2019 her climate change in the face of motherhood poem 'The Human Emergency' went viral, seen online by over 80,000 people across the world. She also performed at Glastonbury Festival and represented Somerset for the BBC's national poetry day celebrations and for the BBC's 'Make a Difference' campaign.
MAKE Shed is Frome's weekly open workshop space for people aged 18 – 35 to work on practical and creative projects individually or with others. A welcoming place for woodwork, metalwork, art and more. It was started by a team of young adults on Edventure: Frome's flagship Start-Up Course and is based on the Men's Shed's model of connection and creativity.
MAKE Shed runs every Thursday 6pm-9pm and is currently online because of Covid-19.
The workshop is available at no financial cost to Somerset residents aged 18-35. But it is not exactly free : You will need to complete the funder's forms. The forms enable the project to continue to make sessions free for local people regardless of their means. So, please only register if you are willing to complete them.
