A free, family fun event on the last afternoon of the Frome Festival is encouraging people to spend time with, by or even in, the river through Rodden Meadow.

At MeadowFest, you can learn all about local wildlife and there's plenty to get involved with from things to make and do such as foraging, pottery, and willow weaving.

Event organiser, Dorothy-Anne Bryant, said: "We got the idea for MeadowFest at Mayhem in the Meadow last year when BART leader, Jeese Grant, helped lots of local children discover the many animals and plants that make their home in our river.

"The children loved paddling into the river, stirring up its bed and getting a net full of stuff out to investigate, so we can't wait to do it again this year."

Mayor of Frome, Mark Dorrington, said: "This is the perfect event for anyone with a passion for nature to meet others who feel the same and explore one of Frome's own special spaces.

"Everyone will be invited to contribute some weaving to the framework of a willow sculpture which will then be installed by Frome Town Council in Rodden Meadow."

A number of local groups will be bringing a variety of activities and games to the meadow. Shared Earth Learning will be providing Playrangers who will tell stories, lead games and do crafts such as green woodworking.

The Children's Festival and FROGS will be welcoming everyone with their usual magic touch of laughter and fun. Somerset Wildlife Trust, the Woodland Trust, and Wessex Water will also be there with their own activities and information for anyone interested in finding out more about their work.

MeadowFest is held thanks to Friends of the River Frome and Frome Town Council, and will take place at 1pm on Sunday 14 July at Rodden Meadow which is just minutes from the town centre. There will be food for sale from HOPE and others, as well as plenty of space for your own picnic.

There is no car parking so please walk along Willow Vale and under the railway bridge to Rodden Meadow.

Alternative footways more suitable for wheelchairs come in from Wallbridge and Rodden Road. There will be accessible toilets available.
