Meeting at The Mount in Frome brings together councillors and residents discussing plans to infill on green space
Residents of The Mount met today to discuss the proposed social housing put forward by the Fair Homes Project, a partnership between Frome Area Community Land Trust, Selwood Housing Group and Mendip District Council.
In attendance were Frome Town Councillors Anne Hills (Keyford Ward Councillor) and Scott Ward (Frome Town Councillor for Highpoint Ward and Trustee of The Friends of The Mount Community Charity) as well as Mendip District Councillors Helen Kay and Janine Nash. Attendees took some time to discuss the project and the need for social housing in Frome agreeing that the Fair Homes Project should be commended for involving the community at an early stage but felt that the proposed sites were vital green spaces for residents and would be sorely missed if they were taken away.
The group discussed the ecology of the green corridor that serves as a gateway in The Mount and the need to preserve it especially when taking into account the huge number of homes being planned for the South of Frome including the Selwood Garden Community.
Friends of the Mount Trustee, Scott Ward said: "The residents and the community are not opposed to Social Housing at all but we think that given the importance being placed on green spaces for ecology and wellbeing, it would be remiss if we didn't encourage residents to give their feedback as soon as possible. We believe that there are alternatives and we are meeting with representatives of the Fair Homes Project soon to put these ideas forward."
The group will be setting up shop on one of the proposed sites on Austin Close, opposite the Culverhill Co-operative on Saturday June 5 from 10 until 2pm to speak with residents and passers-by about the proposed housing project and encouraging them to register their feedback with the Fair Homes Project group.
