A creative music progamme for youngsters with additional learning needs - which has involved pupils throughout the Somer Valley - has moved on line until it is able to return to jamming sessions face to face.

Sound Lab is usually run from Swallow Cafe in Radstock - now most of them are on- line but as before, they are free. You don't need to have any musical experience .

The music sessions re-started this month (after successful pilots last year) and will be continuing until the end of 2021.

Sound Lab is a creative music programme for young people aged 14 - 18 years with additional learning needs such as Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Project Co-ordinator Mark Scott told Nub News : "These regular music sessions, funded by Youth Music, will empower and enable young people from the Somer Valley area through a variety of music-making activities, from songwriting and music production to instrumental jamming and sound exploration.

"The project will enable all participants to develop their musical skills and play new instruments, enhance their personal skills and confidence and enable them to work with others, with an aim to build a new community which the young people can continue to access beyond the life of the project. "

In addition to the Swallow Charity, they have been partnering Threeways School and Critchill School in Frome. They have funding from Radstock Town Council and from the St John's Foundation.
