Local cancer charity We Hear You (WHY) are running a free six-week course for adults living with and beyond cancer in Autumn 2023.

The WHYoutdoors course brings together a small group of up to nine participants, all of whom are living with and beyond cancer, in a beautiful woodland setting. The group runs from 10am to 3pm once a week on Wednesdays, in Wanstrow near Frome. A mixture of non-strenuous solo and guided activities promote a closer connection with the natural world, while people form friendships and share experiences, taking a break from daily life together. A previous participant said:

"As the weeks of the course continued I felt that I gained room to reflect and let some light back in. My life has been enriched by the whole experience and four years on I tap into what I learned daily. I've found the 'beauty' pathway, that we covered in week two, can bring instant joy into the dullest of days and the most sombre of moods accompanied by a loving gratitude for the present which deserves to be cherished".

The WHYoutdoors course is open to anyone aged 18 or over who is living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. This could be at any stage from diagnosis onwards and includes those who have been in remission long term. The activities are not physically strenuous, although participants are advised that the whole day is spent outdoors (with a rain shelter) and that the toilet facilities are compost loos. To find out more and book a half-hour consultation about the course, call 01373 455255, email [email protected] or visit wehearyou.org.uk/whyoutdoors.
