Dog owners and walkers are invited to join FTC staff and the teams from Charismatic Pets and Frome charity Dogs for Health at the Old Showfield on Sunday 8 September from 9am to 11am.

A previous date for the event was postponed, as the weather was deemed too hot for dogs.

Cllr Mark Dorrington said: "In the Showfield-wide consultation earlier this year, FTC staff spoke to lots of dog owners and it came out strongly in the data analysis that people would like a dedicated area for dogs, for recall training, socialising and play.

"What that means in practice is now up for discussion, before we apply for funding to take the project forward.

"Come along to view preliminary plans and drawings on 8 September, showing proposals for fencing and agility equipment in the back field. Nothing is set in stone at this stage; we're taking advice from industry experts and we also want to hear from you, if you walk on the Showfield with your dog, or live in the local area.

"If you can't attend in person, please take a moment to complete the survey – the link is at the bottom of the article"

Charis Vincent of Charismatic Pets is hosting a fun dog parkour and hoopers activity alongside the sharing of the plans and said: "Come down any time between 9am and 11am to the back field at the Old Showfield for some fun with your dog on our pop-up parkour and hoopers equipment.

"Every dog will take home a rosette, just for taking part!"

Amy Wood of Dogs for Health, a charity that provides therapy dogs, walk and talk groups and a befriending service, will be at the event with chair of trustees James Lewis, an information stand and some of their specially trained therapy dogs, for anyone who wants to find out more, access services, or volunteer.

Amy said: "Dogs for Health are excited to be joining Frome Town Council on 8th September. Please come along, meet a therapy dog and find out how you can volunteer, support and refer people."

The rescheduled dog event takes place on Sunday 8 September between 9am and 11am at the Old Showfield, Frome. As before, the event is weather dependent: please see FTC Facebook page and website for information on the day.

For those not able to attend in person, you can share your feedback via an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/showfield-dogs, open until Sunday 15th September.
