A new Drama group for 11-13 year olds is starting at the Merlin after school on Mondays, involving fun, improvisation, collaboration, intrigue and problem solving. An immersive experience for all!

Workshop leader Kevin Ross explained:

"Our new class aims to create exciting drama capitalising on the children's ideas within the story we are creating together. We don't like to leave our stories hanging so we will always try and find a resolution to the dilemmas we create. Feel good endings are a particular favourite!" Kevin worked as a drama teacher in schools for a 'number' of decades, spending 15 years at Selwood Academy, leading musical productions, Shakespeare for Schools projects as well as community based shows. Dramakarma already run improvisation classes for 7-10 and 13-16 year olds at The Merlin in addition to home education groups and after school clubs. The group was initially formed during the first lockdown, writing resources for teachers, promoting health and well-being through drama and has evolved into running after school classes and drama holiday camps. Dramakarma is co-run by Chloe George who brings a wealth of theatre experience and creativity as well as a natural flair for supporting and communicating with young people and this new group welcomes local A-level drama student and amateur dramatics enthusiast Owen White to the team. To find out more about Dramakarma and all of their groups or to register please visit www.dramakarma.co.uk or the Frome Nub News directory. The head of Rode and Norton St Philip school federation George Muxworthy said: " Dramakarma have brought the children's project learning to life. Some of the quietest students have grown in confidence. The props and clues that Kevin and Chloe provide are truly inspirational and draw everyone right into the heart of the drama, all desperate to contribute their ideas. The club is always fully booked. Highly recommended." Chloe added : " We all have a passion for drama and performance and through our classes we aim to provide a safe space where children can just be themselves and set their inhibitions worries aside. Wellbeing is at the centre of everything that we do. We are particularly interested in making sure that drama is accessible for all children. "We have made a link with Fair Frome and some local schools to ensure that children with a special interest in Drama have the chance to benefit from its many rewards."
